Lawler votes for man who suggests women must be forced to give birth in order to save Social Security
Katonah, NY — After 22 days without a Speaker, and three failed candidates, the Republicans brought their fourth and final Speaker candidate to a vote on the floor and Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY17) showed the voters of New York’s 17th Congressional District just how extreme his views really are, voting alongside his colleagues Rep. Matt Gaetz and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for Speaker Mike Johnson.
“Thank you to Mike Lawler for showing us exactly who he is today. Faced with a decision to show some leadership and pull his party back from the brink, he chose instead to vote for MAGA Mike Johnson,” said Liz Whitmer Gereghty. “Johnson is an election denier who wants a national abortion ban with no exceptions and supports slashing Social Security and Medicare. Mike Lawler is not a moderate – though he likes to play one on TV – he doesn’t share our values and must be defeated at the polls in 2024.”
Mike Johnson cosponsored a national abortion ban with no exceptions, led the Republican Study Committee’s platform to slash Social Security and Medicare, was named the “most important architect of the electoral college objections” on Jan. 6, 2021, and introduced the national “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
